Madurai:
Madurai, an important Tamil Nadu city is like the hub from which routes to Kodaikanal (westwards), Rameshwaram(eastwards), Kanyakumary(southwards) and Chennai.
The town offers various tourism places most of them being temples: the famous ones being the Meenakshi and the Kalagar temple.

Someone once told me Madurai is a 'modern village'. Incidentally this modern is the only southern city for which I could get a host of information on internet.
Thanks to a site dedicated to Madurai: www.madurai.com  I could plan my trip within an hour and surprisingly it all went well.
Half day site seeing at Madurai is more than what the city has to offer.
